Here is an FYI for all Pastors – if you are arrested then you cannot use the Church property as collateral with the bail bondsman. Pastor Mark Lewis who was arrested for arson has now been arrested again for fraud and perjury, and now the 501(c)(3) status of the church is also under investigation. This is the same pastor who is also the center of another investigation for dealing methamphetamine for the past two years, according to court records obtained by the Daily Republic in Fairfield.
Mark Lewis, pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in rural Vacaville, was arrested Friday on fraud and perjury charges stemming from his arrest back on Jan. 9. Investigators believe that Lewis fraudulently used church property as collateral to help post his $500,000 bail.
According to a press release from the Vacaville Police Department, Lewis provided allegedly fraudulent paperwork to the bail bond company, launching an investigation into the 39-year-old’s church.
Investigators found that Lewis’ church was using a corporation name and number actually associated with a church in Riverside, California.
Further, Lewis’ church had, apparently, never filed for non-profit 501(C)(3) status.
Friday, around 2 p.m., officers served a search warrant at the church and not only arrested Lewis, but also his uncle Danny Lewis. Thanks to the first search warrant served at the church, authorities found a handgun with its serial numbers removed in Danny’s bedroom. Danny was arrested on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a fireman.
Authorities note that the investigation into the case is still ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to call the Vacaville Police Department at (707) 449-5200.
